Gretchen (Ingram) Smiley; 70, St. Joseph, died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 1998, at a St. Joseph hospital.
Mrs. Smiley, a homemaker, also had assisted her husband, Eugene, on their farm in DeKalb, Mo., until retiring.
Born in DeKalb on Aug. 8,1927, she had been a resident of St. Joseph since 1990. She graduated from the Faucett, Mo., high school.
Mrs. Smiley was a member of the King Hill Christian Church and Jolly Jills, both of St. Joseph; and Wallace Sunshine Club.
On June 16, 1945, she married Eugene Smiley in Troy, Kan; He survives of the home.
Mrs. Smiley was preceded in death by an infant son, Larry E.; and her parents, Arthur Clyde and Lucille Ingram.
Surviving: son, Gary D., St. Joseph; a daughter, Constance S. Eckart, St. Joseph; two sisters, Ruth Ann Foster, St. Joseph, and Catherine L. Laurence, Faucett; four grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; five great-grand-children; and 10 step great-grand-children.
Service: 1 p.m, Saturday, King Hill Christian Church, St. Joseph. The body will be taken to the church one hour before the service. Burial: Union Cemetery, Faucett. Visitation: after 9 a.m. today, at the Clark-Sampson Funeral Home, St. Joseph, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight.
Pallbearers: Dan Moser, Gene Eckart, Gary Waller, Butch Budine, Wesley Brown, Mike Goodlet.
Interment - Union Cemetery, Faucett, Missouri.
